A Practical Approach to Seeing Typographer Jan Tschichold Clearly,
With Contributions from Over 50 Typography Experts Worldwide
The Korea Typography Society was founded in 2008 to study letters and typography. LetterSeed is an international typography journal first published by the society in December 2009.
The key focus of LetterSeed 10 : Jan Tschichold is the German-born Swiss typographer, Jan Tschichold. Spanning 440 pages, this issue explores Tschichold’s Sabon typeface, his correspondence and debates with Swiss artist Max Bill, and his time as Art Director at Penguin Books, including the publication of his famous “Penguin Composition Rules.”
This edition also includes conversations with those who remember Tschichold, a book exhibition featuring works inspired by his legacy with contributions from over 20 graphic designers, critical reviews of books about Tschichold published both in Korea and abroad, a comprehensive list of typography-related research papers published in Korea, critiques of notable typography exhibitions from around the world, and a preview of the upcoming TypoJanchi 2015 festival.
With contributions from over 50 typography experts worldwide, LetterSeed 10 : Jan Tschichold aims to strip away the myths and illusions surrounding the so-called “Master of Typography” and to present him as a typographer seen in his true essence.
