A Series Exploring the Fonts by AG Typography Institute
How are font types designed? What balance and aesthetic do they embody? Where do they perform best in the most meaningful way? The AG Type Specimen Series seeks answers to these questions, delving into the design and application of fonts created by the AG Typography Institute.
This book is an introduction to the font Myrrh 2015, an expanded version of designer Ahn Sang-soo’s font Myrrh (1992). Myrrh 2015 applies spatial concepts such as the three-dimensional and planar variation structure to the original Myrrh Korean script, expanding the type family to six, and refining the shapes of the Roman, numeral, and symbol fonts to match the Korean script. We also created a new family of over 500 different arrows and geometric characters that are included in Unicode 7.0.
Myrrh 2015 Type Specimen provides an introduction to the new Myrrh 2015, type families, visual calibration of Roman letters and numbers, monetary symbols and punctuation, symbol fonts and arrow families, recommended sizes, and more. This is a full-fledged introduction to the subject of fonts, following on the heels of Ahnsangsoo 2012 Type Specimen, Ahnsangsoo Rounded Type Specimen, Leesang 2013 Type Specimen, and Mano 2014 Type Specimen, and it is written in both Korean and English to broaden the scope of the reader.
