The Korean Society of Typography was founded in 2008 to study letters and typography. LetterSeed is a typography journal published by the Korean Society of Typography since 2009.
The theme of LetterSeed 22 is ‘Lettering ecosystem: production, distribution, and education’. The field of Hangul fonts has been more fruitful than ever in its history over the past 10 years. Typography experiments based on lettering have been widely conducted, and as interest in letters has increased and font design programs have developed, not only font designers but also non-font designers have presented fonts with different shapes and concepts. The market, where illegal use was rampant, has completely changed its distribution method with cloud services, and completely new production and distribution methods such as crowdfunding have been introduced. Typography education at existing universities as well as alternative font education institutions has become specialized and specialized, fostering a new generation of font designers. LetterSeed 22 examines the specific experiments and practices carried out by institutions and individuals that have influenced the production, distribution, and education environments of these fonts.
