A Tree with Deep Roots Does Not Sway in the Wind
The New Face of Basic Design—Textbook of Basic design
The importance of fundamentals cannot be overstated for both teachers and learners in any field, and design is no exception. Textbook of Basic design is an updated edition of Basic Design, which was first published in 2003 and has served as a foundational introduction to design for over a decade. This book is designed to provide beginning design students with essential formative design theory and practical case studies.
To achieve this, 33 design experts affiliated with the Korean Society of Design Science have systematically structured the principles of basic design into three main categories: Elements of Form, Principles of Form, Form and Interaction.
Additionally, the book introduces 54 hands-on exercises drawn from actual design courses in visual design, media, fashion, product design, and spatial design—both in Korea and internationally. This is a must-read foundational textbook for professors, instructors, and students embarking on their journey into design, regardless of their specific field of study.
