The Revised Edition of The Design Dictionary by Ahn Graphics (Originally Published in 1994). The updated version of The Design Dictionary expands on the original by covering 41 major topics, ranging from “emotional engineering” to “environmental design,” with additional subtopics accessible through the index. Written by experts actively working in various fields, the book explores not only design terminology but also broader design concepts relevant to contemporary discussions, aiming to stimulate deeper understanding.

In response to the expanding scope of design, the revised edition introduces enhanced content on emotional engineering, interface design, perceptual psychology, and web design. The topics span visual design, advertising design, design theory, crafts, fashion design, industrial design, spatial design, environmental design, and new media.

The book is structured into main entries, features, columns, and appendices. Beyond the main entries, special features delve into topics like design tools, postmodern design, and the nature of media and design, including holography. Columns offer perspectives from designers, advertisers, professors, and photographers, reflecting on various facets of design. The appendices provide practical information, including a timeline of Korea’s modern design history.

Targeted at general readers, this book translates complex concepts into accessible language, making it suitable for non-specialists. It retains the insights and ideas of authoritative contributors while supplementing and refining the content of the first edition to address recent changes in the field. With rich visual materials, this book serves both as a professional reference and a practical resource, delivering knowledge useful for understanding design and applying it in practice.
