Born in Seoul, Chang Eung-bok graduated from the College of Fine Arts at Hongik University and founded Mono, the predecessor of Mono Collection, in 1985. With a foundation in textile design, she has contributed significantly to Korea’s textile design industry, working across residential and commercial spaces, domestic and international hotel projects, and furniture and soft interior design. She has held numerous exhibitions, including at Mori Art Museum (2005), Gallery Artlink (2010), Seoul Museum of Art Nam-Seoul (2013), UnKyung Historic House and the Carl Hansen & Søn flagship store in Denmark (2019), and Print Bakery Hannam flagship store (2022). Her works are part of collections at institutions like the Blue House, Seoul Museum of Art, and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in the UK. Her designs have also played a pivotal role in representing identity at corporate promotions and diplomatic events both in Korea and abroad. Chang’s approach emphasizes symbolic image language, or meaningful patterns, which she incorporates into space design to infuse positive energy into daily life. She believes these spaces, enriched with the symbolism and meanings of patterns, offer experiences that inspire a more ideal way of living. By integrating crafts, she utilizes local materials and techniques to create sustainable value for life and nature, transforming them into practical designs for contemporary living.
