핀란드 출신의 산업 디자이너이다. 스위스에 있는 그의 사무실에서는 기술적, 과학적 발견과 관련한 프로젝트 포트폴리오들이 진행된다. 그의 작품은 미래 생활환경에 대한 예측의 결과물이다. 현재 핀란드 헬싱키에 있는 알토대학교의 예술디자인 및 건축학부에서 교수로 재직하고 있다.

국문학과 사진을 전공했다. 〈검은 빛〉 〈먼 산〉 〈시절들〉 〈Every Little Step〉 외 사진전을 열었다. 레너드 코렌의 『와비사비: 그저 여기에』 『이것은 선이 아니다: 자갈과 모래의 정원』 『예술가란 무엇인가』 『와비사비: 다만 이렇듯』를 우리말로 옮겼다.

충주에 위치한 건국대학교 디자인대학 교수. 2004년부터 ‘실내 디자인 스튜디오’와 ‘가구 디자인’ 교과목으로 학생들과 만났다. 홍익대학교 미술대학에서 박사학위를 받았으며 가구 디자인과 관련된 다수의 논문과 작품을 발표했다. 지금껏 쌓아온 전문지식이 이 시대의 삶과 연결되려면 어떻게 해야 할까 고민하던 중 논문이 아닌 대중에게 읽히는 글에 도전하게 되었다. 2015년 4월부터 지금까지 충주지역 «교차로»에 격주로 연재하는 칼럼으로 재능 기부하고 있으며, 격월간 교육 잡지 «민들레», 대한항공 기내지 «비욘드», 일간지 «한겨레» 등 여러 매체에 기고하며 대중과 만나는 글쓰기의 근육을 키웠다. 건강하고 즐겁게 글을 쓰고 싶고, 그 글을 통해 타인과 엮이길 희망한다.

홍익대학교 미술대학 시각디자인과 졸업 후 동 대학원에서 의상 디자인으로 석사 학위(M.F.A)를 수여받았다. 이후 영국 런던패션대학(London College of Fashion)에서 석사학위(M.F.A)를 마치고, 국민대학교에서 박사 학위(Ph.D)를 취득했다. 현재 평택대학교 패션디자인및브랜딩학과 학과장으로 재직 중이며, 한국섬유·패션산학협회 회장, 서울미술협회 부이사장 등 여러 학회 및 협회에서 임원으로 활동한다. 또한 싱가포르, 러시아 등 국제패션대회 심사위원으로 초청받았으며, 작품 활동으로 〈Media Art Moving Drawing〉 작업이 ‘제8회 서울모던아트쇼 대상’ 수상, ‘한국기초조형학회 국제초대전’에서 최우수작품상을 수상했다.
