Established in 2017, the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism explores the diverse challenges arising from rapid urban growth through the lens of architecture and urbanism. With a focus on Seoul and other global cities, the Biennale seeks to address pressing urban issues and propose innovative solutions. The Biennale features Thematic Exhibitions centered on a specific theme, Guest Cities Exhibition showcasing pioneering public projects from around the globe, and On-site Projects that bring the theme to life. Additionally, the Biennale directs participatory programs such as Global Studios and educational workshops, providing a collaborative space where experts, government agencies, and members of the community can all come together to envision the future of Seoul.

Doi Akifumi

Born in Hiroshima in 1957. Owner of Tom’s Box. Handles picture books and books related to picture books. He has been involved in the planning and editing of over 300 picture books to date, including the Forest of Images series (Holp Shuppan) and Neko no Sweater (Oikawa Kenji, Takeuchi Mayuko). He also organizes the workshop Atosaki Juku with Akira Ono, which aims to nurture picture book authors.

Kristel van Ael

Kristel Van Ael is a business partner at Namahn, a humanity-centred design agency based in Brussels. She is the lead author of the Service Design (servicedesigntoolkit.org) and Systemic Design (systemicdesigntoolkit.org) toolkits. Kristel is also co-teacher in product-service-system design and lead teacher in systemic design at the University of Antwerp (Faculty of Design Sciences).
Bas van Abel

He is the Creative Director at Waag Society, focusing on developing various projects based on open design principles. He is also the co-founder of Waag Society’s Fab Lab and the Instructables Restaurant. On a personal level, he is actively involved in the global maker and digital fabrication community.

한국전통문화대학교를 졸업한 후 전통 회화의 재료학적 기법 연구와 지류 문화재 보존을 심도 있게 연구하기 위해 일본으로 유학을 가 도쿄예술대학원 문화재보존학 석박사 학위를 취득하였다. 일본에서 다수의 회화 문화재 복원 모사 및 수리 작업의 연구원으로 활동했으며, 한국에 귀국한 후 객원 연구원으로서 회화 문화재의 복원 모사 사업에 참여했다. 장황에 대한 새로운 접근을 시도하고자 권민성과 함께 2022년 SOKO 장황 스튜디오를 설립했다. 장황이 지류 문화재의 보존 처리와 작품을 표장하는 것에 국한되지 않고 하나의 독립된 공예로 분류되길 바라며 장황을 기반으로 한 다양한 디자인 작업을 진행한다. 현재 SOKO 공동 대표로 활동하고 있으며, 후시카솔 스튜디오 및 전통문화교육원 전통문화사화교육과정에서 모사(전통 회화) 강의를 병행하고 있다.

Yoon Min-goo

Yoon Min-goo was born in 1989. Graphic designer and font designer. He draws letters and turns them into fonts. He has created various Korean fonts, starting with the web font Barngul in 2002. A separate interest is modern paleontology. He is fascinated by the process of providing letters as materials to workers in various fields and collaborating with them to produce unexpected results.
