Explore the Art and Philosophy of Lee Kyu-chul : Blurring the Lines Between Sculpture (3D) and Photography (2D)
and Uncovering New Possibilities in Visual Experimentation and Thought
This book is a posthumous collection honoring the work of the late Lee Kyu-chul, published to coincide with a retrospective of the artist’s final works. Emerging in the Korean art scene in the late 1980s, Lee was reputed for tackling the boundaries between sculpture and photography, often blending three-dimensional and two-dimensional media. Despite his brief career of just six years, Lee put his stamp on Korean art with his philosophical and innovative approach. The exhibition was organized by his close friend Gum Nuri and his student Ju Suja, and was the first event that gathered his artworks cherished by family and friend. Contributions from photographer Bae Bien U and designer Ahn Sang-soo, along with writings by critic Park Young-taek, further enriched the show. This book provides a deeper understanding of Lee as both an Meotjilbi (artist) and a person.
