A designer’s struggles that he did not know about before becoming a designer

The term “design” has become very common. Perhaps that is why we think that we know what design is and how designers work. However, is that true? Many stereotypes about design are the same for both ordinary people and for those in the design profession. Starting from a client’s excessive or preposterous demands, «Design by Accident» describes in an honest, informal way how the author managed to deal with this demand, and what a designer’s true responsibilities are.

Jang Yeong-jin

Graduated with a primary major in English Education from Korea University. After completing military service and returning to school, he explored new fields and entered the world of design. Discovering an unexpected aptitude for it, he pursued Industrial Information Design as a second major and went on to earn a master’s degree from the same university. Currently, he runs the design company YOUNGLAB, participating in design projects for startups, SMEs, and large corporations domestically and internationally. He also creates content that integrates design and technology, such as smart lamps and figures. Recently, he has been actively involved as a mentor in various creative programs run by institutions like the Korea Creative Content Agency and Jeonbuk Content Korea Lab, supporting creative endeavors and startups. As a designer, creator, and supporter of aspiring designers, all of his activities converge on the core of design. With this in mind, he continues to dedicate himself to design every day.
