연세대학교에서 세라믹공학, 미국 UArts(前 Philadelphia College of Art)에서 공업 디자인을 전공했으며, 헬싱키경제경영대학(Helsinki School of Economics) 경영학 석사, 서울과학종합대학원 경영학 박사이다. 뉴욕 디자인 전문회사 IDI(Innovations and Development Inc.)에서 시니어 디자이너, 데스키 어소시에이츠deskey associates에서 디자인 디렉터를 지냈다. 미국 파슨스미술대학parsons school of design에서 제품 디자인학과 교수로 활동했다. 1995년 귀국해 현재 삼성디자인학교 SADI 제품 디자인 학과장으로 재직하고 있다.

독일 트리어대학(Universität Trier)에서 전략 경영과 마케팅을 공부했다. 관광 산업을 위한 서비스 디자인 데스티너블(Destinable)의 설립자이자 컨설턴트로 유럽 내 다양한 관광 산업 프로젝트에 참여했다. 2008년부터 오스트리아의 인스브루크경영센터(Management Center Innsbruck, MCI)의 기업가 정신 및 관광 산업 석사 과정에서 서비스 디자인을 강의하고 있다.
