After graduating from Sogang University with a degree in History, they earned both their master’s and doctoral degrees in Art History from Dongguk University. Since 1991, they have been cultivating a deep understanding of Korean history and culture at Kansong Art Museum, where they have been actively lecturing and writing, particularly on Joseon-era painting and Korean art.

Currently serving as the Director of Research at Kansong Art Museum, they also teach Korean and East Asian art at Dongguk University, Ewha Womans University, and other institutions.

Their publications include The Ink Bamboo of Joseon and The Fragrance of a Scholar: Encountering It Through Paintings, as well as co-authored works such as Chusa and His Era and The True View Culture. They have also published numerous research papers, including Tan-eun Lee Jeong, A Study on Ink Literati Painting of the Mid-Joseon Period, Daoist and Buddhist Paintings of the Joseon Dynasty, and A Study on the Historicity of Samcheongcheop.
