대학에서 시각디자인을 공부하고 편집 디자이너로 커리어를 시작했다. 디자이너로서 인문학적 소양을 쌓고자 홍익대학교 대학원 미학과에 진학했다가, 디자인을 해석하고 표현하는 일에 소질이 있다는 사실을 깨달았다. 이후 다양한 매거진에 객원으로 참여하며 2013년 월간 『디자인』 기자로 정식 합류했고, 지금까지 디자인 전방위에 관련된 글을 쓰고 있다. 2021년부터 월간 『디자인』 편집장으로 활동 중이다.

LG전자 MC사업부 UX 디자이너와 뉴욕 와이어리스 제너레이션 프로덕트 디자이너로 일했고, 인간과 알고리즘의 협업을 연구한 Lab64를 설립·운영했다. 롱아일랜드대학교에서 컴퓨터 과학을 공부했고, 카네기멜론대학교에서 HCI 석사 학위를, 서울대학교에서 언론정보학 박사 학위를 취득했다. 기술이 인간의 고유한 창의성을 무한히 확장시키는 즐거운 도구가 될 것으로 믿고, 디자이너가 여러 AI 에이전트와 호흡을 맞추며 단순한 작업자를 넘어 ‘창의적 지휘자’로 거듭나는 방법을 연구한다. “AI가 나를 대체할까?”라는 막연한 두려움이 “AI와 함께 무엇을 더 할 수 있을까?”라는 설렘으로 변하기를 바란다.

한국전통문화대학교를 졸업한 후 전통 회화의 재료학적 기법 연구와 지류 문화재 보존을 심도 있게 연구하기 위해 일본으로 유학을 가 도쿄예술대학원 문화재보존학 석박사 학위를 취득하였다. 일본에서 다수의 회화 문화재 복원 모사 및 수리 작업의 연구원으로 활동했으며, 한국에 귀국한 후 객원 연구원으로서 회화 문화재의 복원 모사 사업에 참여했다. 장황에 대한 새로운 접근을 시도하고자 권민성과 함께 2022년 SOKO 장황 스튜디오를 설립했다. 장황이 지류 문화재의 보존 처리와 작품을 표장하는 것에 국한되지 않고 하나의 독립된 공예로 분류되길 바라며 장황을 기반으로 한 다양한 디자인 작업을 진행한다. 현재 SOKO 공동 대표로 활동하고 있으며, 후시카솔 스튜디오 및 전통문화교육원 전통문화사화교육과정에서 모사(전통 회화) 강의를 병행하고 있다.
