Han Jooyeon

Han Jooyeon is a leading museum education specialist in Korea, with more than two decades of experience connecting audiences with art through both theory and practice. A first-generation museum educator in Korea, she studied Art History and Art Education at Ewha Womans University and Seoul National University, and began her career in museum education in 2000.

After serving as a fellow at the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies, Han held key roles at Leeum Museum of Art, Samsung Foundation of Culture, including Head of Education and Head of the Heritage Team. There, she developed major education programs, including exhibition-related initiatives, Leeum Kids and Leeum Teens, teacher training courses, and docent training programs across Korea.

She currently teaches at the Samsung Foundation of Culture and Chung-Ang University’s Graduate School of Arts Management, while serving on advisory committees for major public cultural institutions, including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Asia Culture Center. She is also a non-executive director of the National Incheon Maritime Museum.

As president of the Society for Art Museum Education in Korea, Han works to promote international exchange in museum education through partnerships with ICOM-CECA and the Association for Art Museum Interpretation. Her recent work focuses on slow looking, interpretation policy, and expanding the role of museums as spaces for meaningful audience engagement.
